Mike Check is not just his stage name, it’s his real name. Picking up the drum sticks at the early age of 7 would help him learn of life with rhythm. Clanging on the drums as a youngster, Check was drawn to the hip-hop sound and culture. After years on the drums, he made a hard decision to put refocus all of his energy into his newly found passion, songwriting.
After substituting the drumsticks with a pen, Check crafted himself into a versatile songwriter. He brings us back to the lost art of story telling, penning his way through records with a flow always ahead of the curve and a ‘reach for the stars’ attitude. His alluring and melody-driven hooks will captivate your attention, and entice you to sing along with this ‘underdog in everyone’ by the 3rd hook. Uncanny wordplay and never heard before concepts help distance himself from the rest of the pack even further. The underlying message to his listeners is “dream big, and work harder than the next.”
Coming from a small town with not many opportunities, Check HAD to dream big and gravitate towards NYC’s bright lights. Even while struggling to pay rent in an unsympathetic city, Check never doubted his aspirations and instead used it to fuel the emotions that drive his music.
